Bree Runway

@ Electric Brixton

Following the success of her Colours, Hoxton shows, Bree Runway dropped three more dates across the country. Bree Runway always puts on a phenomenal performance. Super stardom is destined for this woman who has talent and glamour running through her veins. Everyone in the crowd has got their best outfit on, best makeup look, the Runways are always looking HOT HOT like their iconic fave. Mya Mehmi and Ryan Lovell of PXSSY PALACE warmed up the crowd, with Mya on decks and Ryan as the MC. The crowd was buzzing after reciting the words to various female rap songs, they did a marvellous job opening for Bree. Tayce from Drag Race UK popped out on the balcony to say hello, she stunned in blue furs as the crowd cheered.

The show began with a visual and monologue that Bree has now posted to her Instagram. She's "inviting the world to watch [her] oscillate through all these images and states" as she embarks on this new chapter. The band take their places as many exerts of audio play praising Bree while the visuals continue, followed by snippets of her songs. This introduction truly gives it that arena show feel, and I don't doubt she'll be selling out arenas very soon. The band play while encouraging us to make some noise for Bree. The familiar guitar of APESHIT begins to sound as Bree makes her entrance, wearing a black leather and feathered corset bodysuit with matching sleeves that echo her first performance outfit in London, the structured corset and boots combo feels elevated this time which feels like homage to her debut live performance. Bree begins APESHIT but not long after pauses on beat to fully take in the crowd, it was as if there was a stop in time. A "world stop... carry on" moment à la Beyonce. A high energy show starter that incorporated high kicks and uninstructed crowd participation, all Bree had to do was direct the microphone. The whole crowd knew every lyric and never faltered for a second.

LITTLE NOKIA accompanied an army of dancers, rugged hard hitting guitar and flashing lights. Bree's vocals went from energetic rapping to belting out choruses and vocalisations you'd only hear on tour. More high kicking choreography and a rock infused performance from her band really proves Bree can flourish in any genre. She was in awe of the energy from the crowd and asked us if we can keep it up the whole show, and of course we all said yes. She applied Pressure next. A literally hair-pulling performance, she interacted with her dancers akin to the drama you'd see in music video. As she hit "wait, wait, wait" she rapidly moved her hips before dropping down on beat. The entire performance was one of the most memorable, ending with a dance break. Bree's dancing always looks so natural, like she was born to do it. Often enough you see pop stars emerge that exhibit dancing as a second or third nature, but with Bree it always feels like something she learned to master that's more than up to par with her music.

She throws it back with Big Racks. As the dancers exit, Bree takes centre stage with some immaculate vocals and oozes star quality. Her dancers return towards the end to help her conclude. Then she asks, "are you a girl that Gucci likes to call?" She goes back and fourth with us, singing the chorus and just when we least expect it, the band begins to play. Her dancers mirror the choreography music video, and she asks to chime in for the Maliibu Mitch verse. She sings that she's in her own lane towards the end of the song as smoke fills the stage, it feels like an extended version of the original song. Her vocals soar, transcending into greatness. A symbol of Bree's journey, her trajectory only ever ascending higher.

Bree then slows it down to give us a performance of an unreleased song called Somebody Like You. She stops the music to give us the rundown. "There's this album that everybody wants from this girl called Bree Runway," she indicates she's working on it, striving for perfection and thus it becomes a little bit harder but she's determined to get it done. This may be a little premature, but I truly feel it's going to be the pop album of the year. She truly puts the excel in excellent. This song aims to show the world one of the many sides of Bree Runway, and what she said on stage is definitely true, that "everyone knows Bree's a fashion girl, everyone knows Bree can..." she shakes a leg. With Somebody Like You, she's showing us her "lover girl side." One of the highlights, a "lights up" moment. Smoke envelops the stage for this emotional ballad that really demonstrates her vocal ability. We all know she can sing but this song proves she can sing. Every note she hit left me in awe, really belting every note. Her guitarist, Nate joins her on stage on his knees with an impeccable guitar solo. She dances next to him and then they embrace with ardent chemistry that would make you think he's who the songs about. Whether he is or not, it didn't matter, it was that believable. Conviction is exactly what you want from a ballad.

She tells us she loves Tame Impala and then goes on to cover Love/Paranoia, the digital screen has this Miami Vice style sunset visual that really manages to capture both Bree and Tame Impala's artistry. An electrifying rendition that once again really demonstrates her vocal ability, she always manages to display emotion through her vocals, which is a side we do not normally see of Bree. She's proved herself versatile and it's likely we'll be seeing more of what she has in her wheelhouse following the release of her album.

She questions the crowd again, "who likes money?" Bree begins ATM acapella as we join in, the drummer plays a single beat over and over to the same rhythm from Khia's My Neck, My Back. The dancers step out, lights flashing different colours as Bree launches like a rocket into the solo version of ATM. It's really prevalent that having a live band at Bree's shows will really give it a rock element and it's proven during the dance break, this further's Bree versatility as an artist.

ROLLS ROYCE is accompanied by airhorns, more fantastic choreography, green lights. Towards the end, the band speeds up the track which builds up as Bree dances before ending in a split. A split on stage is one of the many impressive things you will see at a Bree Runway show, definitely a highlight.

"Some people like to do things all day, but Bree Runway likes to do things ALL NIGHT," was the segue into Bree's sexy, seductive song ALL NIGHT. She takes the stage on her own, again she incorporates crowd participation and asks us to sing this at the top of our lungs. What Bree says goes, smoke fills the stage as do pink and blue lights, creating the perfect ambience for the tone of the song. She expresses her gratitude from her fans and take signs that her fans have made for her from the crowd. Nate leans back into the crowd with a wonderful guitar solo as the crowd goes wild.

HOT HOT is the grand finale that goes out with a bang. Red and blue lights shine on our favourite star as Bree moves to the music, but she pauses to invite none other than her BFF Tayce to the stage, they have a little face off moment and then greatness ensues. One of my favourite things about seeing Bree live is seeing HOT HOT in person, because the live version is the closest thing to the original cut of the song. She breathes new life into the song with harmonies in the bridge as Tayce and her backing dancers flawlessly get down on stage. The band electric, their moves magnetic, a moment no one in the room will ever forget.

A lot of people call Bree a star in the making, but it's evident that she is already a star. And she is going to be the biggest pop star in the world one day, it's very clear that her talent is absolutely unmatched. Kash Powell's choregraphy has been enthralling to witness live. My only qualm with Bree's concerts is that both times I felt it was too short. I would've loved to see 2ON and NO SIR live among others from her repertoire. However, it's clear she has refined her best work for her performances and done an outstanding job. She's truly smashing it and whenever her next run of shows are, you better believe I'll be there watching. Bree Runway is not to be missed.
